Satchel was 6 months old yesterday. He is a big beautiful boy. The training lessons were well worth every penny. He will go off leash out into the field with us and stay right by our side if we tell him heel. If we tell him to lay down and stay he won't move from that spot until he is released. Truly amazing. we are working with him every day and he is doing so well.
We spent three 1/2 hours there doing the transfer. She had to train us on how he was trained. Satchel did so good up there. We put him into a down/stay and he stayed right there, never moved, she let in other dogs and they played all around him and he never moved, we left the area and hid behind a bush,he never moved. He did so very well with all the commands. We were very impressed. When we first got there we were told to ignore him, we did and that was very hard, he finally came over to us and smelled us and then rubbed and rolled allover us, back and forth from one to another. He was so happy to see us. We were so afraid he wouldn't recognize us but that was not the case. We finally got done wiht the transition and came home. Once back in the back yard it is like he has completely forgotten everything he learned and is back to his old tricks. The thing is that we now have to reinforce everything he learned here. So now that we know what to do we have to start doing that here. He has a really good foundation to grow on and now it is our turn to be the trainers. He has grown and it is so good to have him home!!!
We get to pick Satchel up tomorrow!!! Both Jerry and I are a bit nervous, will he recognize us? We cannot wait to get him home.
Satchel is coming home in one week. We go and pick him up next friday. We will spend from 3-5 hours there to transition. Now we have to learn everything that he has learned. He will probably be a better student than we. The report so far is that he is very friendly and stubborn. He would rather play than listen and obey. Just like his owner.
Kyle has come down with mono. Yes, the kissing disease. He insists that he hasn't been kissing but......... This is our first experience with mono and it is not pretty...at all. He is so tired he can barely stay awake, his throat is so swollen and sore he cannot swallow. We ended up in the ER yesterday. They put him on two IV bags and gave him steriods via the IV to help with the swelling. He was feeling better last night and ate some pancakes this morning. Hopefully he is on the mend.
